Professor Srijib Bhusan Bagchi VISITING PROFESSOR DEPT. OF Statistics Brief bio-data of Prof. Bagchi:- Professor Srijib Bhusan Bagchi did his PhD in Statistics (area: Reliability Theory) in 1973 from Calcutta University. He joined kalyani University as a Lecturer in Statistics in 1973. In 1980, he joined the Dept. of mathematics, Burdwan University as a Reader in statistics and subsequently in 1989 he started a new department of statistics as Professor and Head and continued up to 2006.Then he joined Indian statistical institute, Kolkata as a visiting scientist. In 2008, he joined the Postgraduate Dept. of Mathematics, Bethune College, Kolkata as Jyotsnamoyee De Chair Professor of Actuarial Science. In 2010, Prof. Bagchi joined Aliah University as Professor and Head in the Dept. of Statistics and Informatics and continued up to December 2016. In 2017, Prof. Bagchi joined University of Engineering and Management, Kolkata as Emeritus Professor and continued up to October 2020. Besides, he served various institutions like Calcutta University, Viswa Bharati, Rabindra Bharati University, Presidency, Raiganj University, Orissa Central University, Koraput (2019 to 2022 June) etc. as a Visiting/ Adjunct Professor. He served as an expert of the faculty selection committee of Calcutta University, Burdwan University, IIT Kharagpur, Kalyani University, Aliah University, Dibrugarh University, Manipur University and West Bengal State College Service Commission. He was invited to deliver a lecture on Statistics Day 29th June, 2015 organized by CSO, IS Wing, Kolkata. He delivered keynote address and one more session in the Two-day workshop on Data Analytics in 2017 organized by Institute of Engineers, Jharkhand Chapter. He also delivered invited lectures in Indian Science Congress 2019 at Manipur University and seminar lectures at Orissa Central University, Koraput in 2019 and 2020. He has published research papers in peer reviewed journals like IEEE Transactions on Reliability, JSPI, CSA Bulletin, Calcutta Mathematical Society Bulletin, IAPQR Transactions, Mathematical Sociology, Thai Statistician etc. Besides, he has written a book for Graduate students of Mathematics and Statistics and jointly edited a book on Strategic Management, Decision Theory, and Decision Science – Contributions to Policy Issues, Springer Nature Singapore. He has also jointly authored a book entitled as Fundamentals of Statistics in Engineering (in Press), Shroff Publications. He supervised research works of six research scholars and examined a large number of PhD theses. His areas of research interest are Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Quality Control, Reliability Theory, Social Network and Sampling. He visited countries like UK, Australia and Bangladesh. He is a member of a number of Statistical Associations and currently the Chairman of Indian Association for Productivity, Quality and Reliability. He has organized a large number of workshops, national and international conferences.
